Bringing a Dish

NOTE:  This is the list of dishes brought to the San Francisco BaconCamp on March 21, 2009.

Its much easier to plan for things if we know you're bringing a dish.  Please tell us what you're bringing below.  Bonus points if you bring your

recipe with you. Super-extra bonus points if you make a page with your recipe here in the wiki!

Official signup for dishes is CLOSED.  You may still add your name to this list, but you may not necessarily get a presentation slot.

Please direct any questions about presentations and food to Eden: aedenhensley[at]gmail.com

Facility:

  • BaconCamp is held in an office space, with office cubicles, which means there will be no kitchen facility.  There is a regular sized freezer and refrigerator, a microwave and a small toaster oven.

  • Please bring food prepared.  No cooking allowed

  • Bring a hot plate if you need it.  Please do not bring anything that lights on fire, or is space-intensive.  Tape your name (& pref your email) address on everything you bring that you want returned.  We want to help return anything that gets left at the event, but please be responsible for your own things.

  • preparation- there will be a staging area, but please bring food prepared.  No last-minute mixing/spicing/decorating.

  • serving - please bring the appropriate serving items needed for your dish.  We will have some dishes/cups available but you will know best how you want to present your food.  Don't forget your spoons, spatula, towels, pot holders, etc.

  • Expect that your dish might not get served at the temperature you'd want it to.  This is potluck-esque, so things will get cold.

Presentation

  • time slots:  have been sent to every dish bringer.  If you did not receive a timeslot, please email aedenhensley[at]gmail.com.  It probably means you were late to sign up

  • everyone should be prepared to do a 1-2 minute presentation.  Say your name, dish name, inspiration, etc.

  • those with demos/talks please limit your presentation to 10 minutes

  • food bringers will be brought out in groups of 5 every 15-20 minutes.  Your food is served at the time of your presentation

  • there will be speakers, microphones & a projector.  If you want to have slides, bring your computer and we will hook you up

  • if you want to bring food without being entered for prizes, bring and serve whenever

  • how it works:

    • 10 minutes before your presentation slot begins, come up to the presentation area.

    • Assistants will place you accordingly.  There are 5 presenters per group.

    • When the first person begins talking, all the dishes from the group are brought out for consumption.

    • Each of the 5 presenters speak in turn

    • The whole group leaves together

    • The next group preps for presos

    • For example:  If you are one of the 5 people listed under 2:20, you will be ready to present at 2:10.

Judging

  • we will be reserving a piece of every dish for judges

  • official judging starts at 4pm and prizes are handed out at 430.

  • audience judging will be happening the whole duration of the event and prizes for that are also handed out at 430

  • if you want to win in a specific category, feel free to mention it during your presentation

Currently testing recipes, but sign me up for a bringing-a-dish slot. Current front runner is a blue cheese and bacon dip, but that's not a definite yet.

I can do a presentation of sorts... consider it a bacon poetry slam of bacon loving Tweets that we have been collecting over at Baconinja... ?

BACONbit-ICE-CREAM (maple-flavored) - Sounds filthy, but its FIERCE!! Kinda like what happens when pancakes spill over on the egg-bacon part of your plate at a deliciously unhealthy lunch. And after some of that bacon-infused bourbon, i may do a creative THE BACONATOR, Schwarzenegger-interpretation... assuming i make it back from NYC in time!! Cheers, C~ (Baconnoisseur)

What about BaconCamp T-SHIRTS? Will there be one?

I was planning on silkscreening a shirt with this image http://blog.nermo.com/?p=1604 (it's a strip of bacon if you don't feel like clicking) in white on a red t-shirt for myself and as of yet am making 5 (for me, two friends, Baconinja and Son of Baconinja), but I can print more if there is interest and even print them with BaconCamp text and/or logo as well if there is demand. Taking it to a whole other level, we could get iron on letters and put names on the back like a sports jersey (Dibs on SIZZLEAN!)

Let me know what you think/ if you are interested/ if this is redundant with something the organizers already have planned. I could print them up ahead of time, depending on interest, or if there are a few extra square feet and an outlet, I could even silkscreen them on site to order.

Hmm, not sure if this is redundant, but I'll be doing a reading, in addition to bringing the cookies. Sign me up under other presentations or demos. Dancing will not be involved.

Chilebrown, I have a shirt set aside for you. Let me know by 2:00 that you are there, so I don't give it to someone else.
